The Three-Body Problem
Cixin Liu
I devoured this book over two days. It was one of my
first science-fiction books in a while and I was
*fiending* for it. I found its premise to be very
clever, and I loved the careful consideration of
Trisolaran society and their reaction to Earth. I also
loved it as an opportunity to explore Chinese
perspectives. It is collectivist in a way that is
particularly interesting and the description of the
struggle sessions at the beginning are quite powerful
as a motivator for the narrator. I will also say that
I do not see the sexism a lot of other people see in
his work. I think there is a stronger case to be made
in his second novel, but this one at least was fairly
nuanced in its portrayal of female characters.
Overall, a very fun read with a well-executed premise.
