The Dark Forest
Cixin Liu
Also devoured this book very fast. I did not love that
the English title of the book gave away the premise,
but I still found it to be particularly well done. I
love how the book skipped between the past and future,
and also enjoyed how unlikable the protagonist was. I
will say that in this book I understood the complaints
of sexism. A lot of the female characters are
needlessly one-dimensional with a big focus on their
physical appearance. I will say I think a lot of the
complaints are from a fairly Western perspective, and
the portrayal didn't feel pernicious merely
thoughtless. Again, this book had a very cool premise
and I loved it as a vehicle to explore Chinese
thoughts and cultural feelings. Very cool.
