The Green Knight
David Lowery
This was my first film in theaters since the pandemic,
and oh boy WHAT a movie to pick for that particular
experience. I think it started off strong, lost some
steam in the middle, but ended as it began. The film
doesn't lend itself to straightforward analysis, but I
think the main message is in the perpetual use of the
word 'game.' I was trying to determine the distinction
between a quest and a game, and I ended up concluding
that it has to do with stakes. A game implies
something with little to no consequences, and without
spoiling the film I think it does a good job
investigating this. I wish the environmental themes
had been hit a little harder, and some of the asides
seemed a bit random; but all in all, I think it was
very well done. Cinematography, dialogue, and action
were all NOICE.
